Gasket set wasnt cheap, but they are much better quality than old SBC stuff. I used an AC Delco kit on mine when we built my 4.8, on this 5.3 Ive used Felpro for everything. Dont forget the head bolt/studs as t he factory ones are torque to yield. Actually went with the cheapy studs on my last build with no issues. Cleaned each one with a die just for good measure and they worked great, way cheaper than the ARP and more than sufficient for a NA setup (Many reviews for these on LS1tech). As for cam kits, Texas speed hands down, and honestly they have everything you need as well and the customer service is great. Im actually kicking around the cam swap idea on mine when i do the 4L80E swap, we will see though. I'll be interested to see how it performs now with the Terminator X kit versus factory PCM on mine, ill be able to play with the tuning myself now. That will be my determining factor.

Thanks David :) I already bought the ARP head bolt kit a while back. I guess I have sticker shock with the gaskets. I called Texas Speed today and asked about Cam and lifter recommendations. looks like Summit for the gaskets, TSP for the hard parts, Oreilly's for the oil pump and timing chain. Now I just need to get the engine on the stand and tear it down to see how far I need to go.

all eight cylinders look good, Can still see the cross hatch in most of them. I'm hoping I can go back with stock rings, rods and mains. I'll finish tearing it down soon and get it to the machine shop to have it boiled out, and new cam bearings installed. Ordered a Cam & springs from TSP.

Just about ready for the machine shop. Rod bearings look good, pulled #2 piston, rings and cylinder are good. Haven't checked the mains yet, but I've a good feeling about it. Engine was nasty outside and quite clean internals. I think the crank seal was leaking from the pattern of the sludge buildup on the outside.
