    89 XJ

Well I got rid of my blazer a few weeks ago and picked up a Jeep. I know all my gm brethren arent happy . The Jeep will fit my needs a little bit better. Ive got a few questions about the Jeep hopefully yall can help with.

    First things First,
    89 Jeep Cherokee, street legal
    rebuilt 6 cyl, auto, np242
8.8 rear end swap, dana 35 front
    snorkle
    36 TSLs
Po told me it has a 8 trail master lift. Not so sure about that, the rear is a 3 block with a add a leaf. And I couldnt find any thing on trail masters website that says they make a 8. He also told me it was a long arm lift, which it isnt. Overall Im pretty pleased with it so far.

First thing I did was a good cleaning, then to the exhaust shop for a little work there. Had 2 broken exhaust hangers and no tail pipe after the muffler. Also have a slight ps leak from somewhere. Fixed those 2 issues last week. Next on the list before it goes wheeling is some kind of two points. It has nothing front or rear. Probably going to go with a winch bumper in the front and just a receiver hitch on n the back for the time being. After that the plan is to just wheel it and enjoy for a while. Next on the list will be something different for the rear suspension. Think either a 3 or 4 rear leaf spring to ditch the blocks.

Also so on the short list is a paint job. Ive never cared about the paint on any of my rigs but this one is pretty bad. Ive never painted any vehicles so any advice on that would be great. Thinking about just doing a rattle can job myself, nothing fancy.

Still having trouble posting pics since all the photobucket bs happened.

Thanks. New to all this jeep stuff, and again going from PO info.

I’ll get some more detailed pics of everything when I get a chance.

If there are any numbers on the springs that will help to identify them?
    gears? lockers?

I was told it has 3:73s and a locker in the rear. Haven’t popped the covers to inspect anything yet, it’s on the to do list.

Kick ass man! Youre gunna need some 4.88s or something deeper. Ive got 4.10s in mine with 33s and I think it would be better with a 4.56.

Me and my Dad want to go out there soon. He just broke the rear end in his Jeep so it may be a little bit.

Haven’t updated in a while. After opening the covers I found out the previous owner was either even more of a liar than I initially thought, or just didn’t know anything. The front had 3:55 in it and the rear had 3:11. And no locker in the rear. So instead of ordering a bumper, winch, and sliders. I ordered new 4:88s front and rear and a spartan for the rear. Waiting to get time to install all that. Then work on a rattle can job and finally go wheel it.

Other than that just trying to plug away at little things here and there. Pulling out all the carpet, plugs and wires, going to get a new battery today. I’m so ready to get this thing on the trail.

I just snapped that you live in Livingston. Next time we go to Woodville, I'll give you a heads up and maybe we can meet up for a burger or something.

new 4.88s installed front and rear. New spartan locker in the back. New battery, plugs, wires, coil. New receiver hitch installed.

I ordered a front stubby winch bumper that should hopefully be here this week. Planning on ordering some sliders at the next payday.

Then heading to go test all this stuff out!

Lol. I had someone else do the gears. I’m pretty determined with this one to hurry up and get my ass out there riding somewhere. I think it’s been either 6 or 7 years since my last real wheeling trip.

Went and ran it out on a few hundred acres my family has outside of town. Everything worked as it should. Really digging the 4.88s

Still waiting on the front bumper to come in. And not decided on if I’m going to worry about painting this thing just yet or wait.

Other than that I’m going To patch a hole in the floorboard tomorrow and it should be ready to go after that, or as ready as it’s going to get.

New bumper came in. Went with one from dirt bound Offroad. This is the “stubby winch bumper”. Very pleased with it, welds look great. I painted it this afternoon, not sure when I’ll get a chance to install it though.

Little more testing the other day. Everything working like it’s suppose to, which is not normal for me.

Need to do some more fender trimming
